Atomic structure: Semiconductors

Diode is made by combining different type of semi conducting materials known as p-type semiconductor and n-type semi conductor. We have the pure semi conductor as combinations of silicon atom forming four covalent bonds with other silicon atoms as shown below:

P-type semiconductor:

This type of semiconducting material is made by defusing impurity of trivalent type of material in the pure form of semiconductor as shown below:

In the above example we have used Boron as trivalent impurity and we represent the p-type semiconductor as

In the diagram above circled –ve are fixed ions and small circle are the holes which are the majority charges.

N-type semiconductor:

This type of semiconducting material is made by defusing impurity of pentavalent type of material in the pure form of semiconductor as shown below:

In the above example we have used Antimony as pentavalent impurity. We represent the n-tye semiconductors as

In the diagram above circled +ve are fixed ions and small –ve signs are the electrons which are the majority charges.

  1. Definitely consider that which you stated. Your favourite reason appeared to be on the web the easiest thing to keep in mind of. I say to you, I certainly get annoyed while folks consider issues that they plainly do not realize about. You managed to hit the nail upon the highest and outlined out the whole thing with no need side-effects , other folks can take a signal. Will probably be again to get more. Thanks

  2. I’ve been surfing online more than 3 hours these days, but I never discovered any interesting article like yours. It is lovely value sufficient for me. Personally, if all webmasters and bloggers made just right content material as you probably did, the web will be much more useful than ever before. “Perfection of moral virtue does not wholly take away the passions, but regulates them.” by Saint Thomas Aquinas.
